Day 3
Garden of the Gods |
Garden of the Gods is one of the main attractions in
Colorado apart from the overly popular Aspen ski resort. Located in Colorado
Spring, this magnificent park features dramatic rock formations which took over
300 million years in the making. The park, which was privately owned, was given
to the City of Colorado Spring back in 1909 by the children of Charles Elliot Perkins
who wished that the park will be open to public for free forever.
The visitor centre is located right in front of the entrance
into the park where we got some info on the park as well as some souvenirs. As
we entered the park, we were amazed with the beauty …. its unique shapes and
colors as perfected by nature.
Among others, the most impressive formations are the Kissing
Camels, Steamboat and Balanced Rock, the Three Graces, the Cathedral Spires and
the Cathedral Valley. This park offers a lot of recreational activities which
includes biking, hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking.

Visitors have been warned to be extra careful and to watch
out for the presence of rattlesnakes especially during the hot days of summer.
We spent a few hours in the park before heading back to
Denver. On the way back, we took a pit-stop at the Castle Rock Factory Outlet where you can find good bargains for famous
brands such as CK, Hilfiger, Guess etc. This is the best therapy after a long
day out at the Garden of the Gods…..
