Day 6
After breakfast, we quickly packed our belongings and checked-out
from our motel. We noticed a special snow-vehicle (minibus) with special wheels
to transport visitors to the park. As snow still covers most of the roads at the
west entrance, it will not be opened until a few more weeks.
We continued our journey from West Yellowstone town to some
over 200 miles towards Gardiner, Montana. From here, this is the Northern
Entrance into the Yellowstone National Park which is open all year round. Finding accommodation here was rather easy and
cheap during this time of the year . We checked-in into a nice 2 bedroom
apartment with full kitchen facilities at a discounted rate. After a quick
shopping for groceries and nice lunch, we waited no more and proceeded to the
Yellowstone National Park.
Herd of Bighorn Sheep |
As expected, this place is heaven for wildlife as they roam
freely in the park and even encroaches into the small town. There was a herd of
mule deer grazing freely in the compound of a motel as we passed by. We also managed to spot Big Horn sheep on our
way to the small town. We passed through the famous Roosevelt Arch as we
entered the park and found a herd of mule deer lying around lazily watching our
car passed by. Of course, we could only watch them from a distance since
feeding and approaching wild animals in the park is an offence and strictly
prohibited.

Our plan that day was to explore the Mammoth Hot Springs,
which is the nearest attraction from Gardiner .
